Miada Ms Fitness New Zealand Competition™ 2004

Travellers Blog: Features at the Palau Pacific Resort

The Miada Ms Fitness New Zealand Competition™ is aimed at providing active New Zealand woman with the opportunity to show their beauty, style and grace as well as strength, endurance and stamina in a series of events while they compete for cash and prizes. The Miada Ms Fitness New Zealand™ 2004 Champion will be the one individual who has scored the highest overall points in the 3 Rounds that make up the competition. These Rounds are 1) Bikini/Swimwear, 2) Fitness and 3) Obstacle Course.

Bikini/Swimwear Round
This is the first round of the competition and is worth 20% of the total score. It involves competitors presenting themselves in a bikini or swimsuit and a short introduction covering their name, age, hometown and interests. Judges will allocate 5% towards the oral presentation and 15% to physical appearance and deportment.

Fitness Round
This is the second round of the competition and is worth 40% of the total score. It involves 4 individual fitness events each worth 10% of the total score. The events for the 2004 competition include in this order:

a) Fastest time to cover a 500m distance on a seated rowing machine. Competitors start the event seated on the rower with their arms at any position they wish.
b) Most full press-ups in 60 seconds. Competitors start the event with their feet and hands touching the floor at arms length. Each repetition must be performed by lowering the body so that the chest of the competitor touches the floor and then presses back to the start position at arms length. If any other body part other than chest touches the floor, that repetition will not be counted. Partial repetitions will also not be counted, where arms have not returned to a sufficiently straight position as determined by the judges.
c) Most repetitions on a straight barbell curl with 25% of the individual competitors bodyweight. Competitors start the event with either the barbell or the back of their hands rested across the upper thighs. Each repetition must see the bar travel upwards to a height level with the competitors shoulders and return so that the bar or the back of the competitors ands touch the upper thighs. Partial repetitions will not be counted where either the bar has not raised sufficiently high enough or the bar or the competitor’s hands have not returned to touch the upper thighs.
d) Most sit-ups in 60 seconds. Competitors start the event with their back lying flat against the floor. Each repetition must see at least one of the competitor’s elbows touch the bottom half (near the knee) of the upper thigh and then return so that the upper back (near the shoulders) makes contact with floor. Partial repetitions will not be counted.

Competitors must comply fully with the rules for each event in terms of what constitutes a “completed repetition”. Judges decisions are final.

Obstacle Course Round
This is the third and final round of the competition and is worth 40% of the total score. It involves a continuous series of 7 events that must be completed one after the other in the fastest time possible. The events in order are:

a) A 20m Sprint; turn and return through
b) 15m of Hoops/Tyres laid alternatively on the ground; then
c) Up and down a Cargo Net; and then
d) Up and along a Balance Beam; and immediately on to
e) Hand over hand along the Monkey Bars (Suspended Ladder); drop to ground and
f) Load three (3) 10kg weighted sacks onto a barrel; and finally
g) Pick up a fourth 10kg weight sack from the ground and carry it 20m to the finish line.

Each event must be completed in full or the competitor must return to the start of that particular event and complete it to the judge’s satisfaction before moving to the next. Fastest time to complete all 7 events achieves top score.

JUDGES
A panel of judges will assess individual competitor performances during the 3 rounds and official timekeepers will record competitor times. Judges decisions are final.
