Welcome
to Issue 4 of Sport Expo Update. Well the Sport Expo office
has become a flurry of activity in the month since our last
edition. We had a great response to our early bird exhibitor
offer, plans are well underway for our six major events and
many other exciting drawcards are under development.
TALK TO
12,000 ATHLETES ABOUT
YOUR BRAND/ PRODUCTS!
The Sport Expo has always been a must for anyone remotely
interested in sport, health, fitness or an active lifestyle.
Now with the addition of some major sports and fitness events,
it means 12,000+ athletes will also be attending this year’s
Expo.
New Zealand’s only major sport and fitness consumer
show, Sport Expo has evolved into much more than a consumer
exhibition in recent years. Sport Expo 2004 looks set to
be the biggest and best yet, with the addition of some elite
events, great entertainment, loads of opportunities for
participation and much more...
Major events
already confirmed for 2004 include:
• adidas Auckland Marathon (All entries picking
up start packs at Expo)
• Nutralife New Zealand Body Building Championships
(300 + entries, 1,500 attendees)
• Harbour Crossing' - King of the Harbour Swim (500- 800
entries finishing and attending Expo)
• Sony Ericsson Big Air - Ski & Snowboard Competition
• Miada Ms Fitness New Zealand
• Fudge Sport and Streetwear Fashion Show
The move to include major sports and fitness events has
meant a significant shift in the profile of people attending
the Expo. The show continues to appeal to consumers of all
ages with an interest in sport, fitness, health, lifestyle
and a healthy dose of action. However this year’s
Expo will see a dramatic increase in attendance by competitive,
outdoors-oriented athletes.
With 12,000+ athletes attending and this year’s
Sport Expo looking set to be the biggest and best yet, can
you afford not to be there?
MAJOR EVENTS
HAPPENING AT
SPORT EXPO 2004
adidas
Auckland Marathon
One of the largest sporting competitions in
Auckland, the adidas Auckland Marathon (previously the BMW
Auckland Marathon) is being run on the Sunday of the Sport
Expo. A new relationship with the adidas Auckland Marathon
will mean all entries plus partners, family and friends
will attend the Sport Expo to collect their race packs.
All marathon sponsors will have a major display presence
at the Expo.
New Zealand
Body Building
Championships
Previously held at Auckland Girls Grammar, this event attracts
300+ competitors and 1,500 spectators over two days of competitions.
The venue will be fitted out with seating for 800, along
with staging, lighting and sound. There are various categories
for competition including teens, junior, masters (men’s)
and masters (women’s) and Open grades.
Competitors pose for 60 seconds each, with women completing
a 90 seconds fitness routine. The event continually generates
excellent media interest and television coverage. For
further information, please visit the NZFBB website.

Ms Fitness
New Zealand
Another Sport Expo first will be the Ms Fitness New Zealand
Competition. A concept initiated by Miada Sport, entries
will pre register and compete in a series of three testing
categories…Fitness Skills (based on body weight, height
& stamina) Obstacle Course (testing coordination, speed
& agility) and Muscle tone/ Physical Beauty. The supreme
winner will be crowned New Zealand's first ‘Ms Fitness’.
More detail will be available within local gyms in the coming
weeks.
When only
the best snow will do!
Better feel, traction and glide are just some of the bonuses
of the top-grade snow being pumped into the Viaduct for
the Sony Ericsson Big Air Competition. Where most other
snow sport events use shaved ice, Big Air organisers are
going all-out, using a snowmaking machine liked to those
used at the Antarctic Centre in Christchurch and by snowfield
operators. A massive five tonnes of snow is being pumped
in. Should help make for an even more exciting competition!
